Returning to Dance After Herniated Disc

Diskusprolaps i lænden

I remember the first day vividly when I couldn’t get out of bed, and I couldn’t walk and things like that.
It was a big reality check because I couldn’t dance. And this was something that I trained my whole life for, and it’s never really been work to me.
It’s always been something that I love to do, and I can make a living out of it. I first felt the symptoms, and I danced for three months before I stopped dancing. I felt symptoms of numbness and me also — weakness and just kind of a disconnect between my lower body and my upper body.

After the MRI, I worked with the OSU team to help diagnose what caused my weakness in my back to allow my back to herniate/Diskusprolaps i lænden. And they have not only a dancer’s point of view, but they also have science, and they have things on my side, saying, like, “This is what’s happening,” from an athletic point of view, or a PT point of view, or a doctor’s point of view. Like, this is actually what is going on, so it’s not just, “Oh, I’m making this up in my mind that I’m hurting right now.” No, there’s something going on, and if I take a couple of days, it’ll be fine. If I wanted to come back to dancing and be strong and be able to do the things that I needed to do, I had to start everything over — and that wasn’t just dancing, that was the lifestyle.

It was neurologically, the pathway that was from my brain to my muscles, I had to reroute the way that that was. Because the way that it was happening was wrong, and that was the way that I got injured — was the way that I was thinking, and the way that my muscles were firing was wrong. For years it was very, very, like, a teeter-totter. Unstable. You know, great days…. horrible days, you know. And then, eventually, the great days started to outweigh the bad days.

And I still have flare-ups now and then, but the difference now is that I’m aware of symptoms. The injury has changed me as a person, not just a dancer, just because I have become more present with myself, because I think with injuries, they happen because you’re not present, and you’re looking into the future saying, “I want, I want, I want, I want,” instead of just being present and saying, “OK, what is my body telling me right now? What do I want right now?” Any athlete doesn’t want to admit that, you know, they can’t do what they’re supposed to do right now. You have to also listen to what your body’s telling you, honestly. And don’t judge yourself. You know you might have pain — you need to go to OSU, you need to start getting therapy to correct your imbalance, cause if you’re getting pain somewhere it’s usually because you’re imbalanced. And that repetition of dance is going to cause major, major trauma to your body. And then it’s a whole other ball game. Once something is injured, you can’t ever go back — it’s just a matter of changing to go forward.

I would recommend OSU. They cared about making a difference in my life because they knew that it was important to me and they could see that this wasn’t something that I was just gonna take lightly. This was something that I had multiple people say, you know, like, “You’re done. You can’t dance anymore. You know, you’re not walking right now, how do you expect to dance?” type of thing like that. And that, for me, was just only just to fuel the fire. So that was one great thing about all the therapists and all the doctors that I saw — they knew that it was possible to come back from this injury.

Where would I be without OSU? I couldn’t imagine where I would be right now because I’m doing great today. And OSU was there for me.

Psoriasis Arthritis – Psoriasis Vulgaris – Pustular Vulgaris – Erythrodermic Psoriasis

In modern medicine, psoriasis is divided into four types.

The first type is psoriasis vulgaris. Patients affected by it usually suffer from a skin lesion on the head, sacral region, and limbs. The second type is erythrodermic psoriasis. Patient with it suffers from widespread diffuse flush, swelling, and exfoliation of the skin. The third one is pustular psoriasis, which can affect the whole body.

Psoriasisgigt

The fourth one is psoriasis arthritis/Psoriasisgigt, which leads to joint damage. It`s rarely seen in China. Professor Zhang, would you please talk about what psoriasis is from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. In Western medicine, it is divided into different types, including psoriasis vulgaris, erythrodermic psoriasis, pustular psoriasis and rarely seen psoriasis arthritis. Psoriasis arthritis most commonly affects foreigner while hardly affecting Chinese people. In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), it is divided into the following types.

The first type is blood-heat psoriasis; the second is blood-deficiency-and dryness-in-heat psoriasis. A disease is usually referred to a syndrome in TCM. So, they`re also called blood-heat syndrome, and blood-deficiency-and-dryness-in-heat syndrome. The third is pimple-affected-skin psoriasis also known as the pimple-affected-skin syndrome. The fourth is a hot-pathogenic-factor-and-weakness syndrome. What are the symptoms of blood-heat psoriasis? Let`s talk about skin diseases, instead of internal medicine. This disease is characterized by vivid red rashes and easily scratched-off scales. When you scratched off a bright and thin membrane, that spot would bleed even after being touched very lightly. The course of this disease is short. We call it blood-heat psoriasis. The second type is blood-deficiency-and-dryness-in-heat psoriasis. There`s a theory in TCM, `Long course of the disease would cause weakness`, isn`t right? A patient who suffers from the disease for over a month and is still in fever would be suffering from weakness and fever. He would have bright red rashes. For the first type, the rashes are a vivid red, while these rashes are light red for this type.

That`s an important difference. Also, though the crusting on the patient’s skin is easy to turn white, it hardly exfoliates. It`s already dry as the word `dryness` in heat` shows. The third type is pimple-affected-skin psoriasis. This disease is characterized by dark red rashes with hard crusting. When you try to scratch off the crusting with your nail, it would be hard to make it. This is called pimple-affected-skin psoriasis. What is this called in modern medicine? It is called psoriasis vulgaris. What is hot-pathogenic-factor-and-weakness syndrome called in modern medicine? It is called pustular psoriasis.

What`s its syndrome on a patient`s skin? The patient would have swelling rashes, whose skin would roll like that affected by psoriasis vulgaris. For a patient affected by psoriasis vulgaris, there would be skin lesion and rashes. Things are different with pustular psoriasis. Probably a large area of skin would be red and swelling. The skin would look pretty thin, and scale wouldn`t be thick. If the scales are thick, it would be pustular psoriasis. Before the disease turns to pustular psoriasis, a patient with psoriasis would have thinner and thinner skin, which seems to be swelling and water-filled.

That is a key point. It would be a sign of wrong use medicine on this patient.
The doctor must be using the appropriate medicines that make the disease turn from vulgaris to pustular.

Shin Splints Treatment:

How to Stop Shin Splint Pain Treatment.

Hi Guys! Welcome to Stability Before Strength.

My name is Oscar, and I’ll be your host. Let’s get started by going over the five steps to shin splints treatment. I will be going over each step and how to safely stop shin splints pain. Let’s go to the first step. If you have chronic shin splints pain, you probably want to stop or decrease duration and intensity of the activity that exacerbates the pain until you fully recover.

You will also benefit by icing your shins for five-ten minutes a couple of times a day. You can do this by freezing a styrofoam cup of water and using it to ice your shins to help decrease the swelling and inflammation/Skinnebensbetændelse which can help decrease the pain in your shin.

My brother used to do this many times a week because he suffered from severe shin splints while running cross country in high school and this helps him. And part of the reason was that we often neglected exercises to strengthen the weaker muscles and stretches of the tight muscles. Which brings me to the second step The second thing you want to do is to stretch your calf muscle and the muscles that cause inflammation of the muscle joint which includes the Peroneus muscle group.

You can do this with the help of a small dumbbell. Simply place the dumbbell under your calf and move your leg side to side and up-and-down a few minutes on each side most days of the week you can lessen the intensity by lifting up your hips using your hands and this could be a little uncomfortable at first but after a few times it should feel a lot easier to do. A few minutes on each side for most days of the week.

You can perform simple static stretches but I found that breaking the connective tissue really helps to relieve some of that pain in your shin The third step involves performing specific endurance exercises to strengthen a few muscles: the Tibialis Anterior, the soleus, Posterior Tibialis and also your hip stabilizing muscles, specifically your gluteus medius and minimus. Click on the link to see how these exercises are performed and to gradually progress. For the Tibialis Anterior, you can perform duck walks for fifteen-twenty seconds to begin.

For the soleus and posterior tibialis perform calf raises but holding it for fifteen-twenty seconds, to begin with, and for the Gluteus Medius and Minimus perform fire hydrants fifteen twenty repetitions two to three times a week. The fourth step is to avoid running downhill, especially hard unstable surface, like concrete. When you run or walk downhill, some of your muscles have to work harder to help break the motion while running downhill.

That is known as the eccentric contraction which happens to be the most demanding of all the contractions so far muscle contractions If your muscles aren’t strong enough to help, then your shin bone takes the brunt of the force, specially when running on concrete This causes you to have pain in your shin, so avoid running downhill, and on unstable surfaces The last step is to check your shoes for excessive wear and tear, and you might benefit from getting a new pair of shoes that help prevent excessive pronation and possibly invest in a good pair of insoles or even orthotics.

A good pair of shoes and insoles can not only help decrease your shin pain but can make running more enjoyable. You can get these shoes at your local running store and shoes are very important because we put most of our weight on our feet, so it’s a good idea to invest in a good pair since you take thousands of steps every time you run.

For example: on average, runners take sixty to ninety steps with one leg in one minute and in 20 minutes of running, it is about twelve hundred eighteen hundred steps, and you multiply that by two that’s twenty-four hundred thirty-six hundred total steps when you run. So, this is important. Remember, don’t ignore the pain because this can lead to a stress fracture in your leg that might require surgery and you might not be able to run for months or do the activities that you love. Just follow these simple steps to stop shin splints pain. Thanks for watching. I hope this video was helpful and informative. See you guys next time!.
